The Segue Falcons began the year on a high note on Monday with an impressive road win against Rocky Hill, 4-2. The rain that afternoon made for tough conditions, but never stopped the game or the impressive Falcon’s offense.
8th grader Andy Barrios lead the Falcon’s scoring with 2 goals. Rounding off the scoring with a goal each were 8th grader Carolina Velasquez and 7th grade Nick Affleck with a goal each. Coach Zane Wilkinson said of his team, “They played great! I’m really proud of how quickly they have bonded and come together as a team.”
With the difficult weather conditions it made controlling the middle of the field challenging. However, the Falcon’s defense stayed strong with excellent performances out of 7th graders Dilane Ramirez and Jessica Flores. Wilkinson stated of both “Both of them were really solid defensively for us. They were a big part of why we won this game!”
Coach Wilkinson also made a point to emphasize how well the team is “gelling” at such an early point in the season. “They are having fun.”, he said. “They are rallying around their pride as Segue scholars and that is very important when you are playing for a school team. Having that connection to their community makes them want to compete at a high level that much more.”
The Falcon’s Soccer Club continues its season with an all Girls game on Thursday, October 4th at 4:00 PM when they take on the Lincoln School in Rehobeth, MA. The Co-ed squad is back in action October 9th, also on the road against Community Prep.
